The Ambassador is a 4-star superior hotel with boutique hotel character and is part of the Meili Selection Hotelgruppe. Nestled within the walls of a historic building, this hotel artfully combines the comforts of modernity with the captivating narrative of Switzerland’s turn-of-the-century textile trade with foreign trading partners, resulting in an atmosphere of timeless elegance and charm.
The hotel has a total of 44 rooms and suites on five floors. Crafted with care, each floor of the hotel pays homage to Switzerland’s textile trade history with a unique and beautifully designed interior inspired by a different country or region. Acclaimed interior designer Ina Rinderknecht has ingeniously woven influences from Spain, France, England, India, and Asia into the hotel’s fabrics, inlays, and decor, creating a rich and captivating aesthetic.
The hotel furnishings are a blend of avant-garde design and classical touches. Exquisite materials such as marble and bronze are combined with custom-made furniture and bespoke lighting to create an ambience of understated elegance, sophistication and timelessness. Traditional design elements such as hand-crafted wood panelling are combined with historical touches; and a hand-laid terrazzo floor is lifted with tasteful golden highlights. Fine materials, textiles and subtle accents are blended together to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Curtains, wallpaper and upholstery fabrics complement the traditional oak parquet flooring, giving the rooms an irrefutable elegance. Each piece of furniture in our hotel has been custom-designed to create an aesthetic that is both pleasing to the eye and imbued with charm. The mosaic tiles in the bathrooms are inspired by the original mosaic floors found during construction. The textile trade narrative is woven seamlessly into the interior design concept that combines elements of regional culture elements and global events.
